The 7pm Test

Does your house still feel like nowhere in particular at 7pm?

Nine taps and you will know exactly what is wrong with your lighting, scored out of 100, with the three biggest faults explained in full. Free, no email needed to see it, and several of the fixes are things you can do yourself tonight.

The 7pm Test

About two minutes. Answer from memory if it is the middle of the day, that is fine.

It can tell you nothing is wrong

A well lit home can score 100 on this, and if yours does you will be told so and shown no booking button. I am not going to invent a problem to sell you something.

The score is a plain sum of six things, the maximums add up to exactly 100, and the whole calculation is printed on your result so you can check it.

  • Layers

Whether every bit of light in the room arrives from one height. This is the flat feeling, and it is not a brightness problem.

  • Control

Whether the room can change across the evening, or whether one setting is doing the job of four.

  • Colour

Whether the light is the right white after dark, and whether your globes agree with each other.

  • Glare and the bench

Whether the fitting is lighting you instead of the room, and whether you chop dinner in your own shadow.

And if you want the rest of it worked out

This test cannot see your ceiling. It does not know how many light points you have, where the circuits run, whether there is roof access, or whether your switch wiring can carry a wall control. Those things decide the price, and the only way to know them is for someone licensed to walk the house.

That is what a lighting design is. It starts at $220, it is credited in full against your makeover, and you keep the plan either way.
